Our country partners in Swaziland were not convinced that people would sign up as Ambassadors, despite the fact that 26% of the population is infected with HIV. However, once the word spread that this campaign would portray people living with HIV as they wanted to been seen and heard, our Ambassadors bravely jumped at the chance. In fact, so many Ambassadors (as well as their partners and friends) showed up that we sadly had to turn some away.
Even though many people are living with HIV in Swaziland, stigma and discrimination still persists. Our ambassadors hoped that their courage would help others see HIV differently, reduce fear, and the stigma suffered by those living with HIV.
